"... in World-in-Theatre's work, there is a great love of the theatrical experience and its ability to move people... there is a strong sense of the ensemble in the group's playing which only working together over time and with a common purpose can achieve. "
[Audrey Wong, Artistic Co-Director, The Substation].

Inspired by their experience with working with the late William Teo, a group of his key performers set up the new company to continue with the vision and philosophy developed by him. This core group continues to grow. World-in-Theatre aims to focus on a process-oriented approach to theatre-making, to develop the complete performer and build a strong ensemble cast.
World-in-Theatre will perform plays with themes that transcend cultural boundaries and remain relevant no matter when and where they were written. It will draw inspiration from the world regardless of nationality, culture, race or creed and present plays with due reverence for each source with the mission of developing a distinctive yet clearly-recognizable Singapore theatre.
To support this mission, it will tap on the resources of traditional world theatre (masks, costumes, music) as well as aim to foster that intimate communion between the performer and the audience in the way that traditional theatre across the world does. World-in-Theatre’s mission is to contribute to the development of Singapore theatre, not by the usual path of staging works with either a Singaporean or a modern-day focus, but by bringing to the Singapore stage works of world-wide significance whose impact on human thought goes beyond what is relevant to our immediate daily lives. Such an approach means that our work will always aim to transcend ethnic and cultural boundaries. This is one of the key things that define our work on the Singapore theatre scene.
