Rhizome
Deleuze and Guattari coined the term rhizomatic learning in their work A Thousand Plateaus. A rhizome, a creeping rootstalk, is a stem of a plant that sends out roots and shoots as it spreads. In performance-making, production of new knowledge requires more grounded frameworks based on history, culture and philosophy. Contexts must be clearly defined and framed with theory; in turn, set boundaries will spawn new conversations. In its 16 years of theatre-making, World-in-Theatre has decided to gather its accumulated cultural and social capitals together and get down to produce new knowledge for performances. Working closely with South East Asian online culture and performance magazine Theatrex Asia, monthly knowledge production sessions feature researches and findings of scholars that have potential for performance-making. These knowledge production sessions work in tandem with World-in-Theatre performance Birth Lab.
